What happens backpacking with my family for 5 years 👪❤️?

🛣️ One of the biggest challenges I face as a world backpacker is figuring what to pack for a year of travel. This year as I was planning my gap year, I was figuring out what I should pack for all seasons and climates for my Africa and Central America what I can learn from my last journey along the Silk Road.
✈️ My best friend and worst foe from my journey are that scale at the airport, they give me panic attacks each time they get “acquainted” with the conveyer belt. Most standard airlines have a weight limit of 20kg (44lb), so as long you can pack for 4 seasons while staying under 20kg, you are set to see the world!
🎒 Out of my 12 years of backpacking experience covering over 70 countries, the key to efficient packing goes back to the 3 Rs, reduce, reuse, and recycle. Reduce your travel weight. This can be done by layering your clothes, buy a few good quality gears that can last for many years over things that wear out quickly, and pack only what you will use every day, not once in a blue moon. The less you carry, the more your body will thank you. Reuse your gear and equipment. Gotta hole in your shirt or long sleeve? Cut it up and make it into a scarf or gloves. Shredded your jeans? You can use the fabric to patch up your backpack or decorate your other travel clothes. Lastly, it never hurts to recycle used travel gear and jackets from other travelers on the way.
📱 At the end of the day, the three things I can’t travel without is my backpack, my phone, and wifi. I have traveled different seasons with big 18 kg pack for long term travel and small 5kg packs for week-long excursions, but my core needs lie in being able to stay connected with my family and friends.
👪Nothing is more important than having that power bank in your bag and a sim card to navigate yourself in this world! Traveling enriches our souls through the connections we build and the experiences we share with the ones we love ❤️
